Baptist College of Florida hosts Missions Conference

If “variety is the spice of life,” then this year’s Missions Conference at The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) in Graceville offered students and guests a particularly savory experience. “That’s what makes the Missions Conferences so special,” remarked BCF Missions Major Justin Toffolio. “Every year offers something different. You never know just what to expect.”

This year’s event, held Oct. 20-22, featured keynote speaker John Brady, vice president of global strategy for the International Mission Board. Brady spoke each day in chapel, emphasizing the conference theme “A Heart for the Nations.”

Florida Republicans gain super-majority, while Amendment 2 is defeated

MIAMI—Republican Gov. Rick Scott was re-elected on Tuesday with 48.2 percent of the vote.

In a gubernatorial race marked by a barrage of negative television ads, Floridians cast their votes based on who they wanted to keep out of the governor’s seat rather than they who they wanted to see in it.

Religious educators to meet in Lakeland on Nov. 10

LAKELAND (FLBaptist)—As small-group pastor of Hope Baptist Church in Las Vegas, Tom McCormick led the church’s growth of small groups to more than 200 with 3,000 people on the rosters, from the 30 small groups with 275 people in 2010.

With the revitalization of the small groups, church attendance also increased from 1,500 four years ago to 2,300, while baptisms more than doubled in that same timeframe.

HOUSTON (BP)—The subpoenas will be withdrawn, Houston Mayor Annise Parker announced Oct. 29.

The word "subpoenas" grabbed national attention after it became known that five Houston ministers were being subpoenaed for sermons and other private correspondence regarding their opposition to the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance.
